Purpleberry is a cooperative of associate trainers from all over the UK. Each trainer is an independent professional who has many years of experience and are all experts in their field. They all have one thing in common, they are passionate about the use of technology.

Northern Region

Vicki Cable

Vicki worked as a teacher for 8 years with responsibity for ICT and the installation and training of whiteboards for the whole school.  Since leaving teaching she has been involved with a variety of small companies developing whiteboard activities and content. She has worked with Creative Partnerships (North East) to develop the creative use of whiteboards within schools and then more recently training teachers on the teaching of Functional Skills in Secondary schools and Primary.  She has trained the V & A Museum, MIMA, Seven Stories and Durham University library and even the RAF on the creative use of whiteboards aswell as working with corporate clients to develop use of their resources.  Her specialities are creative use of the whiteboard, especially in the Early Years, developing the creative curriculum within schools using a variety of IT software to engage and inspire learners.

 

 

 

Steve Crowther

Steve has 17 years classroom teaching experience, being Head of Technology in two schools in the North West. Since 2003 he has worked with schools and corporate organisations in the UK and overseas, delivering training and supporting frontline teachers right from Primary to the Higher Education sectors, in the use of technology in the classroom. Steve’ s specialisms include the use of Interactive Whiteboards to improve teaching and learning, digital media and Computer Aided Design and Manufacture (CAD/CAM)  An enthusiastic advocate of Web 2.0 technology and freely available software, Steve is always looking to add new titles to help teachers develop their skills and knowledge. In his spare time he can be found with a paintbrush in his hand trying to improve his landscape and portrait painting.

 

Steve Mulgrew

Steve taught German and French in a leading County Durham secondary school and Specialist Language College before moving onto another Language College as Head of ICT. Through a combination of these two roles he developed a specialist interest in the use of ICT as a tool for teaching and learning right across the curriculum, but with particular emphasis on its use in the Modern Languages Classroom. Having worked as Regional Subject Adviser for the revised MFL programmes of study and Regional Trainer for Key Stage 2 and 3, he now writes and delivers training programmes on a range of subjects for a number of organisations. He is an accredited trainer for the leading brands of interactive whiteboards. As well as working right across the UK, Steve has recently delivered training in France, Germany, Austria and via web conference to Latvia.

 

Sarah Birchall

With 20 years experience in the primary classroom Sarah has experience of the whole primary curriculum and ICT. Within the last 6 years she has worked extensively with key stage 3, 4 pupils and adults on web 2 technologies. Her expertise is podcasting, digital videoing and social media. Sarah has worked across the UK in conjunction with media outlets such as BBC, Sky, local radio and a project that has achieved the Olympic inspire mark. Sarah has a good understanding of Virtual learning Environments and has trained staff on how to use and maintain these areas. She has successfully delivered training in education and corporate environments as an accredited SMART trainer.

 

Midlands Region


Shahina Burnett

Shahina is a SMART certified trainer known for her experience of the SMART Board interactive whiteboard and Response voting system . She has 13 years of teaching experience and six years of creating and delivering interactive technologies training for Steljes ( the UK distributor for SMART).  She has worked with a variety of clients from schools, universities, MOD, Police, Health and Prison service to Carol Vorderman ! Always on the look out for new training opportunities she is interested in developing training for new products.

 

Ian Callow

Ian CallowIan is an experienced technology trainer. With over 10 years experience working as a trainer in the interactive technology field, his experience covers  Corporate, Public Sector and Education clients. Ian works with Interactive Whiteboard technology, Polling technology and Video Analysis as part of professional development. His education brief covers primary through to university, improving the opportunities available to teachers through newer technologies. Ian’s moto is “Interact  Question  Analyse”.

 

Southern Region

Angie McGlashon

Angie has been  a teacher for 27 years in Primary and SEN settings. Since then she has  been teaching adults to use ICT creatively in the classroom and been a senior lecturer in 2 universities. She is currently working with Billericay SCITT as both a student lecturer and also supporting the mentors in school with ICT. For the past 4 years She has been working with Essex LA as an ICT adviser but now, although still working for them in a freelance capacity, she now works for a variety of companies and schools specialising in IWBs and SEN. Angie developed an interest in SEN and ICT when working on the SEN support service for Essex LA for 8 years and , subsequently,  being the business manager for Widgit Software for 18 months. She  now works in 3 special schools on a regular basis and is currently co-writing her third book on SEN and ICT for Routledge

Danny Nicholson

Danny Nicholson is a former secondary Science teacher and has over 15 years teaching/training experience. He has delivered training in Primary, Secondary and Special Schools all over the UK and overseas as well as in colleges and universities. He is an accomplished trainer on both Promethean and SMART Interactive whiteboards. He also delivers whiteboard training for corporate and military clients as well as “train the trainer” sessions. Danny also works as an Initial Teacher Trainer for both Primary and Secondary Science PGCE courses at a SCITT and a University and as a HLTA Science tutor. He also delivers training on “web 2.0″ technologies such as Blogging, Podcasting and Social Networking. Danny is the author of The Whiteboard Blog and spends far too much of his time on Twitter.


Laura O’Halloran

Laura O'HalloranLaura is an experienced primary teacher who also has worked with learners of all ages from FS through KS3, students learning English as an additional language and PGCE students.  She has enjoyed working as a freelance trainer supporting both the education and corporate sectors.  Laura is a certified SMART trainer and worked for Promethean as a Teaching and Learning Consultant for five years.  She is keen to encourage teachers and their pupils to make the most of the ICT within their schools ensuring that it always enhances and never obstructs good quality learning.  Her interests include snorkelling – only in beautiful hot places obviously, watching films – can be done most places and game playing – the console variety!

Kathy Smedley

Kathy SmedleyKathy has run a successful training and consultancy company for 11 years. Prior to this, she worked for 10 years as a primary teacher before leaving to pursue her interest in new technologies in education. Kathy provides consultancy services to Local Government and schools, leading a range of training services, supporting curriculum and ICT development strategies. Kathy is a NAACE accredited ICT mark assessor. She has more recently managed the roll out of managed learning environments (VLEs) for schools from Nursery to KS5 across a local authority. Kathy is an accredited whiteboard trainer and has led training in SMART and Promethean whiteboards.

Mary Rebelo

Mary Rebelo is a teacher who specialises in supporting teachers to use ICT to support the curriculum. She taught full time for 15 years until 2001 across the Foundation Stage, Keystage 1 and Keystage 2/3 and then worked for 18 months as a fulltime ICT adviser for her local LEA. Since 2002 she has been working as an Independent ICT consultant and has been ICT training in schools across the UK and in Europe.

She also teaches classes of pupils from early years to KS4 in a CLC (yes there are some left) 2 days a week and loves keeping that contact with young people. She works with all sorts of software and hardware to support learning across the curriculum. She specialises in the use of Interactive Whiteboards for teaching and learning in schools and colleges,  and for the MOD and corporate clients, for training and running meetings. She runs regular training on ICT for Early years, ICT in Primary Science and technology to support SEN/D pupils. She is also a trained CEOP ambassador and runs lively and informative e-safety sessions for pupils, teachers and Parents.

Mary has an unbounded enthusiasm for ICT to support learning and teaching, and has converted many sceptical or nervous delegates to the merits of its use with simple practical examples and a lively hands-on training style.

Chrissie Saunders (BA, B.Ed, M.Ed)

Chrissie Saunders has been working in ICT and Education since 2000, initially working on behalf of her local LEA then moving to freelance; working for companies such as Promethean, Steljes, and Espresso to name a few.  Her background was in Primary but she’s delivered training from Early Years all the way to University.

Over the years she’s led countless training sessions on the use of interactive whiteboards, digital video and learning platforms to support the curriculum.  She’s also an avid blogger and a social media enthusiast (addict) and is very keen to support schools whilst they move towards using Web 2.0 and Social Media in the classroom.  She does her best to make the training sessions entertaining, informative and practical.

Recently, one teacher said ‘even though everything blew up, it was still the best training session I’ve ever had!’
